He Live's - Pliny is my favorite beer at the moment. Have you made it to Russian River brewery in Santa Rosa? It is a beer lover's paradise. It's a shame they only bottle Pliny and Blind Pig, but that makes the experience of going to the brewery all the sweeter. I live near Pacific Coast Brewing in Oakland, and they now serve Pliny on tap! Dangerous....

Happy New Year!

Happy New Year everyone!

Cliff - Czechvar! Have you had Budvar in Europe? It's the parent brewery. They sold the "Bud" portion of the name to Anheuser Busch, long before global marketing. Now, they must market their beer, the original Budweiser(Budvar), as Czechvar.

Budvar is considered by many to be the best beer in the world.

MMMMMMMMMM BEER!!!

Budweiser Budvar were the sponsors of my hometown football (soccer) team for a couple of years. Good beer indeed!

Happy holidays, Mr Flow!

I heard that Czechvar was coming a few years ago...then heard nothing until I saw a bus-stop ad for Czechvar in SF on our recent visit.

Living in the home of the best American brewery I don't drink much imported beer. If I do it's usually from Mexico.

Well it was called Budveiser when I had it at the tiny Barbizonder in Amsterdam. It was fun hitting on the flight attendants (stewardesses back then) after the usuall "shopping spree"

Wow, I didn't know that existed. My best response to that would be from my neck of the woods made by Terrapin Brewing. It's called "Happy Ending". I am referring only to the brew, mind you.

I've only known Pliny from translation classes back in the day. If only my liberal arts education had given me something as useful as a beer...

Very nice -

I have three bottles of 2003 Thomas Hardy's Ale left that I am trying to milk out for a bit.

A wonderful Dorchester strong and dark.

Ummm, not trying to sound like a scotch snob, but Whyte and Mackay is a blended whisky.

That said it is a damn fine blend. I've had the 30 and The Thirteen, (how cool would it be if they had a vatting of The Eleven??) both very nice. Beats the snot out of Johnny Walker Blue any day.

I believe the 40 is out of their Rare and Prestigous collection from 1966. Double matured blend of 70% Dalmore and other Speysides.

Back to beer: For those who love IPA....you must try "Stone I.P.A" from the Stone Brewery in San Diego. Best I.P.A i've ever tasted.

They also make a stronger version called "Arrogant Bastard" but despite the cool name it's not as good.

everything i have had from STONE is really good... you live down that way? i can get stone and ROGUE from portland -- they are the two most interesting microbrews i can get down at the packy on a regular basis....

russian river is the shit -- they also brew the belgian style ales that of course are bottle conditioned and i have seen regularly at WHOLE FOODS.

i'm nowhere near san diego, but I was visiting there once & tried the Stone IPA at a tavern in La Jolla and was blown away. Their distribution is pretty far flung now & when it showed up recently at a local liquor store here in VT I was thrilled. It is pretty expensive though, so I stay away from the 'specialty' brews they put out.

I'm totally happy w.their IPA

Grendel - I'm with you.... Stone is great. I think they have some other "high end" beer that runs about $12-$14 a 6-pack, but I haven't been able to get myself to shell out that much. Let me know if you've tried it.
